How our bodies move.
The
mantle.
You
will recall, when my soul exited from my body, it was rolled tube-like. It was
a fine, delicate, white, spiritual substance that I have named the “mantle.”[1]
My Spirit was at the head of this mantle. Immediately I was above my body when
the mantle opened and revealed my soul as the following.
The graphic above shows my soul, in a horizontal position hovering above my body. The Spirit, (large white circular area) is me, my spirit, where my consciousness is.
Intellect
and mantle are one.
You can see that my spirit (intellect) is one with the mantle. I am therefore continuously present and very conscious of every moving part of my soul and my body. This presence and consciousness is active where the exterior of our body is concerned (arms, legs, hands, hair, jaw etc.) and is passive where our interior body is concerned, organs, heart, liver, brain, lungs etc. Though I saw the energy-cells, I was not conscious of having any control or impact on them whatsoever.
Intellect
(Spirit and mantle) is the form of our body.
The
mantle (fin-like basin) is what envelopes and contains my body. Since my mantle
is an extension of my Spirit (intellect) my intellect is also the form of my
body. The energy-cells contained in the mantle, are within my body.[2]
Where
our spiritual component is concerned, our Spirit and our soul[3]
know the “rules of the game.” Though I do not know what makes my soul (Me)
tick, I (my spirit) am not hampered by this shortcoming. Proof of this was
clearly shown in the way I exited my body, without my will or consent, at least
as far as I know. I returned to my body however because I willed it. Obviously
my Spirit knows what to do and when to do it, even if (consciously) I do not.
There
could never be a situation where any part of our body is not under the control
of our soul, either directly or indirectly. Otherwise, how would flesh and
blood know what to do, since they are without knowledge? My brain, for all of
its complexity cannot add 2 + 2. Should a part of my body not be under the
control of my mantle (which is an extension of my spirit) it would be
impossible for flesh and blood and all my bodily organs to assure my survival.
My soul is totally in charge of my body and contains it completely.
When
walking, I do not say, “Legs walk.” I do not even will my legs to walk. My
intellect walks by way of my mantle; it contains my legs and provides the
motive power for my legs to walk.
When
I touch, I do not say, “Hands, touch.” My intellect touches by way of my
mantle, providing the motive power for my hands to touch.
When
I see, I do not say, “Eyes see.” My intellect sees by way of my eyes, since my
mantle contains my eyes and provides the motive power for my eyes to see.
When
I eat, I do not say, teeth, tongue and jaws eat. My intellect eats by way of my
mantle bringing food to my mouth, for my body’s health and nourishment. My
mantle contains and permeates these parts, and provides the motive power for
them to function in eating.
Not
one hair on my body can be touched, without me (my intellect) being aware of
it, since my intellect contains it by way of its mantle.[4] Since this is
so for us, small and limited as we are, why is it so difficult to understand
that each hair on our collective heads is known and is counted by God, he who
is THE Spirit? He who is THE Intellect, He the Spirit who permeates everything
there is?
Our
mantle contains our body. Through it, our intellect (consciously and
sub-consciously) monitors and operates our body constantly, keeping us aware of
everything that is happening.
As
my intellect is not visible save for the signs given by me (my spirit) so is my
soul not visible save for the signs given by my intellect. We should not be
surprised that our soul is not visible, anymore than we should be surprised
that our intellect is not visible.
Our
Spirit and our soul (by means of our body) are here to minister for God’s greater
glory, i.e. “To love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul,
and with all our mind, and to love our neighbor as yourself,[5]
and to conquer the earth.[6] God saw all that he had made and it was
very good. [7]”
“Brother Thomas, I now know and
understand, that our intellect- because of it’s extended presence in the
mantle, IS the form of our human body.
What
are your thoughts on this?”
-Brother
Raymond, - “We must assert that the intellect which is the principle of
intellectual operation is the form of the human body. For that whereby
primarily anything acts is a form of the thing to which the act is to be
attributed: for instance, that whereby a body is primarily healed is health,
and that whereby the soul knows primarily is knowledge; hence health is a form
of the body, and knowledge is a form of the soul. The reason is because nothing
acts except so far as it is in act; wherefore a thing acts by that whereby it
is in act.
Now it is clear that the first thing by which the body lives is the soul. And as life appears through various operations in different degrees of living things, that whereby we primarily perform each of all these vital actions is the soul. For the soul is the primary principle of our nourishment, sensation, and local movement; and likewise of our understanding. Therefore this principle by which we primarily understand, whether it be called the intellect or the intellectual soul, is the form of the body. This is the demonstration used by Aristotle (De Anima ii, 2).” [8]
How
do our bodies move?
So, how do our bodies move? In the silhouette below, we see our body as our eyes see it, all visible and nothing invisible.

In this next silhouette, we see the invisible soul.
Our
mantle (extension of spirit/intellect/mind shown in white) surrounds and
permeates the body. Because the mantle permeates the body, and because the
mantle is an extension of the spirit, the intellect permeates every part of the
body. The visible body is nothing more than a “flesh and blood machine,”
contained in the mantle and operates at the beck and call of our spirit. When
you (intellect) want to move any limb, the extension of your intellect (the
mantle that encloses and permeates the body) provides the motive power for that
body part to move. The body part in question responds to your will, e.g. from
intellect which includes the mantle, to motive power to brain, to movement of
the limb, which limb responds with its bones, muscles and ligaments etc.
This supports the need for the soul (a spiritual substance) to be invisible; otherwise (visually speaking) because we are spirits incarnate, we would not recognize one another. Visually we would all look the same, our distinctiveness would be intellectual and not physical, visual.
In this silhouette, we see the energy-cells. Since I am not certain what they do I have shown them in the abdomen, torso and head area, if they are indeed power and programs for the organs.

There
have been studies that show persons who love God and are spiritually nourished,
have healthier bodies and a better quality of life than those who do not love
God or are indifferent to God, or who live as if God does not exist and do not
nourish themselves spiritually. Since our soul is intimately linked with our
intellect, and, since our soul permeates every cell in our body, does it not
stand to reason that when the mind is troubled or ill, cells will be affected
and the body part in question will suffer?
Search Google for “spirituality and health” on the Internet, and one will find confirmations of this. You undoubtedly know many such persons personally.
In this silhouette, we see the spirit, the white area in our crown. This is where our spirit is, where our control center is. It occupies the space in our skull, from above the ears to the top of our cranium. It permeates the entire brain. Everything else (from our ears down) is simply an array of biological “motors” to enable our body to respond to our intellect via our will to survive. More on this later.

In this silhouette we see everything together.

Now, back to my exit from my body.
Once
I stopped above my body, instantly the mantle opened and exposed the pearl-like
energy-cells. The soul (spirit, mantle and energy-cells) rested in the air above my body. Its fin like perimeter
oscillating ever so slowly seemed to sustain my soul in space. I believe these
“fins” were constantly at the ready to take me anywhere instantly, as they
would for my limbs. They shimmered ever so gently, lazily moving up and down.
They rippled like a gentle wave on a calm lake.
The
mantle allowed
me to leave my body, and allowed me to float in space. I was not held in space because I had no weight. I was simply at the
ready, to go to another place if I so desired. The frill like edges of the
mantle resembled in appearance and functioned like the fins of a cuttlefish.
Something
else was remarkable; though my spirit and my soul were seemingly sustained in
space by the oscillating “fins” of the
mantle, not one energy/cell moved, only the “fins” were in constant motion. The
energy-cells simply continued to blink with what seemed an inexhaustible power
supply.
The
mantle has the power to bring my soul and my body, anywhere I may wish to go.
It is the only means of locomotion I have, both in a soul state and in a flesh
state, since it is the soul that animates the body. The mantle is the only link
I have between my intellect and my physical body where movement is concerned.
The mantle is a true part of and an extension of my intellect, since it does
everything instantly in union with each act of my will, whether the act is conscious or subconscious.
When
I thirst, it is my soul that thirsts, and not my body, since it is the soul and
not the body that receives the thirst message.[9]
It
suffices for me to thirst for a glass of water, and my intellect/mantle will
bring me immediately to a glass, to the tap, turn it on, fill the glass and
drink.
The
mantle is my intellect in action and in motion. All voluntary movements of our
body are the result of our intellect in mantle mode. Brother Thomas identifies this action as “motive power.” [10]
Can I move only as far and as fast as my physical health and my legs will take
me?
“Brother
Thomas, is this really true? Must
my body follow my soul and not the other way ‘round?”
-Brother
Raymond,-
“The
soul does not move the body by its essence, as the form of the body, but by the
motive power, the act which presupposes the body to be already actualized by
the soul: so that the soul by its motive power is the part which moves; and the
animate body is the part moved.” [11]
My soul per se has no restraints. What limits me in doing things perfectly is my lack of knowledge of who and what I am,[12] and being too often hampered by a desire to live and do what I am not. As a result, I lack the knowledge and ability for me to truly govern as spirit over flesh and blood. This is further frustrated when I impose my flesh and blood appetites and goals on my spirit.
Soul
contains the body.
“Brother Thomas?”
-Yes
Brother Raymond?-
“Is
it our soul then that contains our body?”
-Yes
Brother Raymond, it is the soul that contains the body.-
“It
cannot be said that they are united by the one body; because rather does the
soul contain the body and make it one, than the reverse.” [13]
Since
the soul contains the body, our soul (which includes our spirit) allows us
(spirit soul and flesh) to be a male or a female human. Without our body, we
are a soul person, i.e. neither a male nor a female, but simply a person, a soul
person.
-Brother
Raymond?-
“Yes
Brother Aurelius.”
“If
we were so to define man as to say, man is a rational substance consisting of
mind and body, then without doubt man has a soul that is not body, and a body
that is not soul. And hence these three things are not man,[14]
but belong to man, or are in man. If, again, we put aside the body and think of
the soul by itself, the mind is somewhat belonging to the soul, as though its
head, or eye, or countenance; but these things are not to be regarded as
bodies.” [15]
Dear
Brother and Sister in the Lord, you and I have a body with biological life, and
a soul with spiritual life, that includes our spirit (with our mind) our mantle
and the energy-cells and these (which we collectively identify as the soul) contain our body.[16]
“Brother
Thomas, I remember you said:”
‘For
man's being consists in soul and body; and though the being of the body depends
on the soul, yet the being of the human soul depends not on the body, as shown
above; and the very body is for the soul, as matter for its (the soul’s) form,
and the (bodily) instruments for the man (his soul) that puts them into motion,
that by their means (bodily parts) they (soul and spirit) may do his work.
Wherefore all goods of the body are ordained to the good of the soul, as to
their end.’[17] (Brackets are the author’s.)
“Thank
you Brother Thomas. I can now confirm that this is true. When I left my body, I
was conscious of leaving every nook and cranny of it, from the outer limits of
my left side, to my toes, through my torso and my right side, with my spirit
following last. It was the same on my return, except for the order being in
reverse.
Because my spirit is the head of my soul, my intellect was aware of what was going on in every corner of my body. I was conscious of this. I could feel it. Through the mantle I was present in every part of my body. I was aware I was leaving every part of my body. I was aware I was leaving my sides, my limbs, my chest etc. I was indeed the form of my body. My soul contains my body and not vice versa. The only reason I could not know this before, was simply because I was always there, in every part of my body and did not know being in every part of my body was not being my body.
Intellect and mantle are one.
Here
is further proof that my intellect and the mantle are one. Regardless of where
I am touched, be it the tiniest hair, or by an aroma, or by cold or heat or by
sight or sound, I (my intellect) am
immediately conscious of this.
The
mantle has demonstrated (where my soul is concerned) that there too it is
indispensable. When “I” left my body, my mantle left every part of my physical
body. I was conscious of this, for my spirit was the last to leave;
consequently I knew what was happening.
In leaving, the mantle gathered the pulsating energy-cells throughout my body,
enveloped them in its membrane, and then left my body on my right side rib
area. It then arced to a position above my body, when the mantle opened
exposing the energy-cells. Its “fins” then oscillated to maintain my soul afloat, i.e. to keep me there.[18]
All this happened in a fraction of a second.
When
the experience was over, the mantle once again enveloped the energy-cells, then
arced back into my body. This time my spirit was the first to enter, then the
energy-cells were distributed, then the mantle extended itself to every nook and cranny of my body enveloping it completely. I felt that I was being filled, inflated. Because my spirit was first to occupy my brain, I was
conscious of every detail in this return. However, once the return was over,
something strange took place. I sensed that my soul’s return point of entry
(same as my point of exit) was still open. I had the sensation of having a void
at that spot on my side.
I
could not live with this sensation in my side. It was then that I consciously willed that this opening be closed. I then heard a small pop and
the opening closed. I now felt whole and complete. Why this is remarkable, is
because I exercised authority over my mantle to close the entrance/exit area.
This was the second time I exercised control over the mantle. The first was
when I returned to my body, and this second time when I closed this “hole.” I
wondered what else could I do with my mantle? What are the possibilities?
Returning into my body was very distasteful.[19] From within my body I looked at my body. I was now weighed down once more. Soon however, everything seemed normal, but I was definitely weighed down by this anchor of flesh and bone. This is not normal. I eagerly wait to have my glorified body.
Parts of the rational soul.
“Brother Thomas, as we can see from this drawing, our soul has three different components:
1.
Our spirit.
2.
The enclosure of our body (with all of its parts) that I have called a mantle.
3.
Energy and organ programming cells? [20]
These
three, collectively is our soul, created by God[21]
to: “love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all
our mind, and to love our neighbor as ourselves,[22]
and, “to conquer the earth.”[23]
I
know for a fact that the large white sphere at the head of this soul is me.
This is where I was, spirit, me and intellect being one and the same.[24]
Now,
at this moment, think of a place you have knowledge of in another city, a place
where you would like to be. Instantly it is present to your mind. If you did
not have a body, your spirit would be there, you would be there instantly, for
this is how movement takes place without a body. With a body however, movement
is one painfully slow step at a time.
It
is obvious that flesh and blood cannot, assure my well-being. Flesh and blood
have no intelligence whatsoever. My existence requires that I know who I am, what I am, where I am
and why I am. To this end, my mantle
contains every hair, every organ and every cell in my body, that I may be
present and knowledgeable in all areas where my well-being is concerned.
“Brother
Aurelius, did you not emphasize this (soul has two parts) in your letter to
Peter, when you warned him not to give the impression he had Victor’s books?”
-Yes
Brother Raymond, I said:-
“Did you not then understand that there are two somethings, soul and spirit, according as it is said in Scripture, ‘Thou wilt separate my soul from my spirit?’ And that both of them pertain to man's nature, so that the whole man consists of spirit, and soul, and body? Sometimes, however, these two are combined together under the designation of soul; for instance, in the passage, ‘And man became a living soul.’ Now, in this place the spirit is implied. Similarly in sundry passages the two are described under the name of spirit, as when it is written, ‘And he bowed his head and gave up the spirit;’ in which passage it is the soul that must also be understood. And that the two are of one and the same substance? I suppose that you already knew all this. But if you did not, then you may as well know that you have not acquired any great knowledge, the ignorance of which would be attended with much danger.”[25]
Seeing other humans, we should readily see their souls.
Having
had this experience, when I now see other humans, I see the outline of their
body as their invisible mantle, as the extension of their intellect. To touch
another person’s body is in fact, to touch their intellect, their soul; since
the soul (via the mantle) contains the body. When I hear their words I hear
their spirit.
What is our spirit?
[1] The mantle
is an extension of our intellect. You have the power to move your body and
parts of your body, by means of the mantle. The mantle also contains the
energy-cells; it is less than paper-thin, delicate and fragile like a membrane,
and I would venture it is indestructible.
[2] More on
these energy-cells later.
[3] Soul means
spirit, mantle and energy cells.
[4] Our dear Lord tells us, "Even all the hairs of your
head are counted." Matthew 10:30. We know that not one hair on our head, or
anywhere on our body can be touched without our Spirit being aware of it. Is it
not realistic then, that God who is The
Spirit, would not be aware of each and every hair on each and every head of
each and every person? Are we to deprive God our Creator, what He has given his
creatures?

Article: 1 “Whether there
are to be distinguished five genera of powers in the soul? Reply to Objection
4: “Although sense and appetite are principles of movement in perfect animals,
yet sense and appetite, as such, are not sufficient to cause movement, unless
another power be added to them; for immovable animals have sense and appetite,
and yet they have not the power of motion. Now this motive power is not only in
the appetite and sense as commanding the movement, but also in the parts of the
body, to make them obey the appetite of the soul which moves them. Of this we
have a sign in the fact that when the members are deprived of their natural
disposition, they do not move in obedience to the appetite.”
[10] Article 3. Whether the souls of brute animals are
subsistent? Objection 1. It would seem that the souls of brute
animals are subsistent. For man is of the same 'genus' as other animals; and, as we have
just shown (2), the soul of man is subsistent. Therefore the souls of other animals are subsistent. Reply to Objection 3.
Motive power is of two kinds. One, the appetitive power, commands motion. The
operation of this power in the sensitive soul is not
apart from the body; for anger, joy, and passions of a like nature are
accompanied by a change in the body. The other motive power is that which
executes motion in adapting the members for obeying the appetite; and the act of this power does not consist in moving, but
in being moved. Whence it is clear that to move is not an act of the sensitive soul without the body.

Part Question: 2 Article: 5 Whether man's happiness consists in

[24] In many
instances, emotions are identified with the heart; love is identified with the
Heart. The heart is often seen as the seat of emotional activity. This is
understandable since no one ever knew what our Spirit is and where the power to
love or hate is, which is of course in our will. Let us recall our dear Lord’s
words once again, “It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh has nothing to
offer. It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The
words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” John 6:63

of having approved of the books which had been addressed to him by Victor on
the origin of the soul, by any use he might make of them, nor to take as
catholic doctrines that person's rash utterances contrary to the Christian
faith. Victor's various errors, and those, too, of a very serious character, he
points out and briefly confutes; and he concludes with advising Peter himself
to try to persuade (Vincentius) Victor to amend his errors.
